Market Structure Under Pressure
The crypto market shed $31.1 billion in total capitalization over the 48-hour period, declining from $2.74 trillion to $2.71 trillion. Trading volume contracted more sharply, dropping from $107.4 billion to $63.2 billion—a 41% decline that signals reduced conviction and liquidity provision across spot and derivatives markets.
Bitcoin dominance edged lower by 12 basis points to 59.21%, a minor shift that reflects proportional weakness rather than a structural rotation. Ethereum dominance rose slightly by 12 basis points to 11.28%, offsetting some of Bitcoin's loss but not establishing a meaningful altcoin outflow. The near-flat dominance picture suggests the market contraction has been broad-based rather than concentrated in any single asset class.
Sentiment Softens; DeFi Accumulation Continues
The Fear & Greed index declined one point to 73 over the 48-hour window, remaining firmly in 'Greed' territory but registering the first downward movement after holding at 74 for the first 24 hours. This suggests early signs of sentiment normalization without panic, consistent with the orderly contraction in volume.
DeFi total value locked increased by $265.8 million to $88.15 billion, a 0.30% gain that runs counter to the broader market pullback. This divergence points to selective capital rotation into protocol-native liquidity and yield mechanisms, possibly as traders position for mean reversion or hedge against further macro volatility while maintaining exposure.
