Bitcoin's Dominance Edge Widens Amid Market Expansion
Bitcoin dominance increased from 58.50% to 58.92% over the 48-hour window, a gain of 42 basis points that reflects sustained preference for the largest cryptocurrency despite an otherwise broad-based rally. This uptick occurred as total market cap expanded by $127.6 billion to $2.617 trillion, indicating that BTC outpaced altcoin gains during this period. The modest expansion in dominance—rather than a sharp move—suggests a healthy market structure where capital is flowing into Bitcoin while also supporting alternative assets.
Ethereum's dominance contracted slightly from 11.34% to 11.10%, a 24 basis point decline, implying that Ethereum underperformed relative to Bitcoin and the wider market. Despite this, ETH remains the second-largest component of market cap, and the modest compression suggests no structural weakness in Layer 1 adoption or ecosystem activity.
