Executive Branch and International Sanctions
The U.S. Treasury has designated digital assets as one of five sectors targeted under what it describes as an "Economic D-Day" campaign, alongside technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. This expansion grants the administration new authority to impose sanctions on any party operating in Iran's cryptocurrency sector, broadening the scope of financial restrictions on the Iranian economy beyond traditional banking channels.
In parallel, institutional adoption continues to advance within the regulatory framework. Franklin Templeton, a $1.8 trillion asset manager, has deployed its tokenized treasury fund on HashKey's Earn channel in Hong Kong, signaling that large financial institutions are proceeding with onchain infrastructure for money market products even as geopolitical sanctions tighten.
