Executive Push for CLARITY Act and Market Structure
During a White House meeting with digital asset executives, President Trump called on Congress to pass a 'fair version' of the CLARITY Act, framing crypto market structure legislation as essential to keeping the United States 'ahead of China.' The meeting followed a stalled Senate vote on the bill and brought together CEOs from across the tech sector ahead of the CFTC's first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting.
Trump's administration is actively working to establish compliant frameworks for existing platforms. CFTC Chair Mike Selig is reportedly working to bring Hyperliquid, a perpetual futures platform, into the U.S. under federal regulatory rules. This approach suggests the administration intends to accommodate established protocols rather than pursue prohibitionist policies.
Broader Administration Philosophy on Light-Touch Regulation
Trump's stated regulatory philosophy extends beyond crypto to artificial intelligence, where he defended rapid infrastructure development and advocated for light-touch oversight, saying AI could be 'bigger than the Internet.' This framing suggests a consistent administration position favoring innovation-enabling regulatory frameworks across emerging technology sectors.
