Executive Branch Movement on Stablecoin Regulation
The Trump administration has advanced a pathway for stablecoin issuance through traditional banking channels. World Liberty Trust Company, a Trump-linked entity, received conditional approval for a bank charter that would assume responsibility for issuing the USD1 stablecoin, transferring oversight from cryptocurrency custodian BitGo. This development reflects the administration's approach to integrating digital asset issuance within the existing banking regulatory framework rather than establishing standalone crypto licensing regimes.
The conditional charter grants World Liberty Trust Company formal banking status, positioning it as a federally regulated issuer of the USD1 stablecoin. The arrangement marks a significant institutional shift in how stablecoin collateral and reserves may be managed within U.S. banking infrastructure.
