US Prosecutors Pursue $25 Million in Crypto Assets Linked to Scam Networks

Coordinated Enforcement Action Against Scam Operations

U.S. prosecutors have initiated five separate forfeiture cases seeking to recover more than $25 million in cryptocurrency connected to sophisticated fraud networks, according to reporting from Decrypt and CoinDesk. The cases represent a significant coordinated enforcement effort targeting assets allegedly obtained from thousands of victims through deceptive investment schemes and romance scams.

Secret Service agents played a key role in the investigation, tracing cryptocurrency flows from victims to money laundering operations based in Southeast Asia. The cases underscore how scammers leverage digital assets to move illicit funds across international borders while obfuscating their origins.

Part of Broader Federal Task Force Success

The latest seizure effort contributes to a larger federal crackdown on scam-related financial crime. According to CoinDesk, a dedicated federal scam task force has recovered more than $800 million in total, highlighting the scale of organized fraud targeting cryptocurrency users and traditional investment seekers alike.

These cases typically involve perpetrators posing as legitimate financial advisors or romantic interests to convince victims to transfer funds to wallets they control. Once secured, the assets are moved through various wallets and exchanges—often with assistance from international money laundering networks—making recovery and attribution challenging for law enforcement.
